Born in Shenzhen and educated in London, Angel Chen received a BA in womenswear from Central Saint Martin’s. She first gained attention on the international fashion industry in 2014 when she was named one of the “Top 5 graduate designers of the year” announced by the i-D magazine with her graduate collection – “Les Noces” (The Wedding). She launched her eponymous label in the following year in London and won the Fashion Scouts’ “Ones to Watch” award. Chen is a significant designer that has contributed to position China as a new fashion power. She is recently shortlisted for 2016 Forbes “30 Under 30” as a top young entrepreneur of arts and design. Her brand is carried by renowned retailers such as Lane Crawford, IT and H.Lorenzo. Influenced by the working experience at Marchesa and Vera Wang during her placement year in New York, her pieces often mix-and-match different fabrics and textures incorporated embroideries and known for their bold colours as well as the whimsical, free-spirited and youthful characters.
Angel Chen was first introduced by Dongliang and sponsored by Sony in October 2014. Through SS15 catwalk entitled “The Rite of Spring”; orders from renowned LA retailer H.Lorenzo swiftly followed! The label’s AW15 collection won Fashion Scout’s “Ones to Watch” Award and was presented during London Fashion Week. In May 2015, Angel Chen created a capsule SS16 collection “Youthquake” for H.Lorenzo’s window display. Meanwhile, Angel Chen has received orders from prestigious stockists worldwide including Lane Crawford, IT and Urban Outfitters, and collaborated with Swarovski, Airbnb, Kiehl’s and Sony. Now London and Shanghai-based Angel Chen aims to continue using bright colours and mix materials to create an innocent, free-spirited and quirky character for creative people.
